Carnival

Salvador’s Carnival receives a very large amount of Brazilians and foreigners. The parades are located mainly in two regions simultaneously: Campo Grande (Downtown) and Barra. It is very important to take into account those safety tips:

  • Avoid carrying valuables such as cameras or expensive mobile phones.
  • Don’t go alone, prefer to walk in groups or with a partner.
  • Carry with you only a small amount of money, just enough for the day.
  • To take part on the blocks you must buy a shirt called Abadá, which entitles you to follow the song cars in a safe area.
  • It is not recommended to walk outside the safe area, called pipoca (popcorn). The chance of being robbed or having an accident is high.
