This is Salvador’s main tourist attraction, with a large number of foreign and Brazilian tourists around. Few areas are well monitored by the police but not all of them, so be aware while visiting.
- Prefer walking on busy areas with Police patrolling. Avoid small alleys that may be risky.
- If you are staying at Pelourinho hotels or hostels inform yourself with the hotel staff about the safest ways to walk around.
- Make sure your hotel lock its front door at night,
- Use Elevador Lacerda ( Lacerda lift ) to go from Mercado Modelo to Pelourinho, or pick up a taxi.
